When I think about what “home” means, my mind goes straight back to my grandparents’ house. It wasn’t big or extravagant — just a simple, cozy space filled with warm woods, familiar colors, and the kind of comfort that only comes from love and care.

I remember my grandmother tending her plants, always finding joy in growing something with her own hands. I remember my grandpa’s quiet pride in the home he worked so hard to provide for, coming in after a long day, sitting down to dinner with his family, and later dozing off in his recliner while we all laughed together at family sitcoms. My grandpa and dad working in the yard and on cars together were always a time you didn’t interrupt because you just knew that was their bonding time; like the ladies in our family would spend baking.

And of course, I’ll never forget the smell of something sweet baking in Grandma’s kitchen — because somehow, she always had a treat ready for us. My favorite memories in the kitchen were always baking cakes and brownies and cookies with my grandma and my mama through the years.

That’s the kind of home I long to create — not perfect, not Pinterest-polished, but real, warm, and full of care. A place where the simple rhythms of cooking, baking, gardening, and homemaking bring joy to everyday life. Where you know you belong. Where your worries slip away for a bit and you’re able to laugh like your day revolved around your loved ones coming home and spending time together.
